I've said that I'm going to test organic matter, but haven't really elaborated more than that so I'll do that here. I will be using subjects from the following categories: meat, fruit, vegetables, grain, and dairy (cheese). I'll restrict the subjects to ones you would find in your average household so that the results are in some way applicable.
To keep it reliable, I will be using at least two types of material from each category: for meat, I will use a red meat (beef), white meat (chicken) and fish; for fruit, I'll use an apple and an orange (to account for citrus and non-citrus fruits); for vegetables, I'll use a root (sweet potato) and a stem (celery), but not a leaf as size and mass would become an issue; for grain, I'll use wholemeal and white bread, and for dairy I'll use a hard cheese and a softer cheese, but not so soft it'll be runny.
Each piece of material will be cut into a 4cm x 4cm x 1cm piece, and so I'll have to order petri dishes accordingly. Now that I look at it, I probably won't need the extra drop of water; the piece is a good size and shouldn't require extra encouragement; an entire peach becomes covered in fungus in roughly 12 days, so my size and time frame seems about right. If it doesn't work, I can always alter the experiment and try again.
